01About
Teranga Music Collective is a cross-cultural music collaboration project and nonprofit, rooted in Senegal and administered from Sweden. Around 95% of the collective's artists live and work in and around Toubab Dialaw, Senegal — the community where the collective's music and working method were born. The Swedish registration mainly handles international administration, funding, and logistics.
At its core, the collective exists for one simple reason: to bring musicians together and get them to play with one another. When that happens, magic happens.
In winter 2026, the collective travelled around Senegal with a portable recording studio, capturing music with more than 20 artists from Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, the USA, Sweden, Switzerland, and Spain — chasing the moment when music becomes intuitive and lives in the now. Along the way, a recording studio was built at Maison des Cultures Sobo Badé in Toubab Dialaw and left behind as a resource for local musicians to keep recording.
The collective has also brought its way of working to Sweden — through public jam sessions in Folkets Park, Malmö, and an interactive studio installation at Sonic Citizens, staged in collaboration with Malmö University, where visitors co-create a song from scratch on the spot.

Sonic Citizens Studio Installation
A working recording studio built inside an exhibition space, inviting the public to co-create a song from scratch. First staged in Malmö in October 2025, in collaboration with Malmö University — returning in September 2026.
